In this episode, a listener wants to know how to approach a new contact for help and I offer three pieces of advice that I have learned on how to reach out for a mentor.
I have learned so much from both being a mentor myself and from those mentors who have helped me. I believe they have played a huge part in my success and challenged me to overcome obstacles along the way.
When reaching out for help, the first thing you have to do is your homework. Don’t just send an email asking for help but do your research to show you are interested in who they are and what they do.
The second tip is to try and find someone you already know, who already knows what you’re capable of and who can help you achieve your potential.
The final piece of advice is to put yourself in their shoes and think about how they need to be treated in order to able to respond in a positive way. Be respectful and lead with generosity.
