Welcome to episode 42 of Ask Mark, where I answer your questions about personal development to help you become the best version of yourself.
From interviewing people from all walks of life on the What I Know Now podcast, I want to share with you what I have learned from my guests by answering any questions you have about personal development, networking and building meaningful relationships. The aim of Ask Mark is to help you achieve your goals sooner and stand on the shoulders of giants.
I would love to hear your questions so please fill out the form or record your question at wikn.co/askmark. You can also drop me a message in the comments box or on social media in the links below.
Now sit back, plug in those headphones and enjoy because it is time to learn together about personal development, networking, building meaningful relationships and much more.
In this episode, I answer a listener’s question with three pieces of advice to help you overcome your shyness and become more comfortable when meeting new people.
Most people are shy from time to time but if your shyness is holding you back, there are things you can do to overcome it. Conquering your fear of meeting new people can open up new opportunities to you.
The first tip is to take the focus away from your shyness and focus on the other person. Asking open questions gives the person the chance to talk about themselves and takes your attention away from you.
The second thing is to do is your preparation. Research what other people are going to the event and prepare questions on what their interests are. Also, keep an eye out for recent news items. These can be great conversation starters.
The final piece of advice is to send the right signals. Don’t stand in the corner with your arms folded, stand where everyone can see you and put on a big smile.
