Welcome to episode 43 of Ask Mark, where I answer your questions about personal development to help you become the best version of yourself.
From interviewing people from all walks of life on the What I Know Now podcast, I want to share with you what I have learned from my guests by answering any questions you have about personal development, networking and building meaningful relationships. The aim of Ask Mark is to help you achieve your goals sooner and stand on the shoulders of giants.
I would love to hear your questions so please fill out the form or record your question at wikn.co/askmark. You can also drop me a message in the comments box or on social media in the links below.
Now sit back, plug in those headphones and enjoy because it is time to learn together about personal development, networking, building meaningful relationships and much more.
Today’s question comes from a listener who wants to know how to approach someone at a networking event and I offer three things you must do to make a good first impression.
It is easy to say that you want to go to events and build meaningful relationships, but actually going an approaching someone you don’t know can be a little intimidating.
However, here are three tips to help you approach someone. Firstly, have a strong and confident handshake. Maintain eye contact, smile and repeat their name in the conversation to help you remember it.
The second piece of advice is that you can initiate any conversation with an open question. “How did you get here? What are you most looking forward to at the event?” Have questions prepared beforehand.
The final tip I would offer is to show that person you are genuinely interested. Lead with generosity, see what way you can help them and give genuine compliments. If you can do this, networking will be a whole lot easier.
