Welcome to episode 64 of Ask Mark, where I answer your questions about personal development to help you become the best version of yourself.

From interviewing people from all walks of life on the What I Know Now podcast, I want to share with you what I have learned from my guests by answering any questions you have about personal development, networking and building meaningful relationships. The aim of Ask Mark is to help you achieve your goals sooner and stand on the shoulders of giants.

I would love to hear your questions so please head to wikn.co/askmark where you can either fill out the form or record your question for me. You can also drop me your questions in the comments box or on social media in the links below.

Now sit back, plug in those headphones and enjoy because it is time to learn together about personal development, networking, building meaningful relationships and much more.

Today’s question comes from a listener who feels a bit awkward when meeting new people and I offer three pieces of advice on how bringing along a friend can help ease your way into networking.

Going to a networking event alone can be a bit daunting at first but knowing you have a partner in crime on the scene, can really help boost your self-esteem. However, don’t fall into the trap of spending too much time together.

The first piece of advice is that it can help reduce your anxiety. It is always important to do some homework before the event, but also knowing that you have a support system nearby can give you the confidence to interact with new people.

The second thing is that they can help you establish a conversation. A small group dynamic can put everyone at ease because no one is on the spot and feels like the flow of the conversation is entirely their responsibility.

The third tip is accountability. To get the most out of networking, you need to set clear objectives for what you want to accomplish during the event. A friend will remind you to stick to your plan and keep you accountable.
