On today’s episode of Mark’s Daily Discoveries, I want to share with you how to meet people at networking events and start to build meaningful relationships.

About eight years ago, I would go these events and stand in the corner on my phone pretending I was busy. Looking back on this, I felt I didn’t know what to say and did not want to interupt other conversations.

When going to networking events in a room of people you don’t know, it can be daunting. Here are some tips I have learned over the years to help you engage with new people.

The first piece of advice is to look approachable. Don’t have your head in your phone. Stand where eveyone can see you, gain eye contact and engage with them with a smile and a firm handshake.

Lead the conversation with a question. If you can, find out about the people before the event, do your research and prepare questions. When you do these little techniques, it will make a massive difference.
