On today’s episode of Mark’s Daily Discoveries, I want to share with you three things that you should never do when meeting new people at a networking event.

The first tip is not to go around handing out your business cards. I met a guy at an event a few weeks who kept going around the room handing out his card. This is something you should never do.

The second piece of advice is to maintain good eye contact with the person you meet and show interest in what they have to say. Don’t keep looking around the room trying to see what else is happening.

The final tip I would offer is to never gossip. Don’t say things like “This is a bad event, This is very poorly organised.” Stay off the negative because it does nobody any good.

Always try to build two or three meaningful conversations, build relationships and follow-up. Have good questions and lead with generosity.
